Today’s meeting was held in Davidson’s lab.  The group discussed the power consumption, battery set up and some issues regarding the design of the AUV.

It seems that the most up to date design has a series of flaws, mainly with the location of the thrusters.  Also the stability of the AUV was another concern that needed to be changed in the final design of the AUV.

The power subsystem group is meeting with Edward Birshards on Thursday the 9th to discuses some design idea for the power system.

Also the microprocessor team is going to start work off of the micro processor board that is beeing donated by Dov.

Today was the first meeting with our new members of team from Mechanical Engineering.

We analyzed and distributed the basic project work load among the team members.

AUV:

Hull Design – Venkat, Abdul, Wan –> Contact Raju Datla, Alistar Greig

Propulsion – Jon, Mike                   –> Contact Raju Datla, Alistar Greig

Central Control – Mina, Max          –> Contact Haibo He

Power & Sensor – Freddy, Nikul     –> Contact Blicharz

On the side note: for sensors we would like to research and understand are as follows:

-Sonar (for Distance)

-Image

-pressure

-IMU (for Compus and Accelarometer)

-Hydrophone ( goes with Sonar)

-Moisture

Today we met with our official adviser, Haibo He. This is what we determined

  1. Next step is to develop specific system designs – clarifies what we will need
  2. Start identifying parts (that we can hopefully get sponsors for)
  3. Weekly Adviser Meetings will be on Thursdays at 2:00 pm

In addition, we reached out to the mechanical engineering department. After talking with Gonca Altuger, who is the head TA for mechanical engineers, we identified two loose students and a team of 5 who were doing underwater propulsion.  After meeting them in class, the group of 5 was very interested and were scheduled to meet as a group of 9 on Tuesday, after I speak with Geofrey Lake (University of Colorado).

After class, we went to meet with Dov Kruger at Davidson Labratory.  In this meeting Dov made it clear to us that the best way to get funding was to enter a competition, specifically AUVSI.  After some research and the initial overwhelming feelings, the group became excited to proceed, knowing that a large task remained ahead.
